Baltimore Starlings revealed as new professional women's basketball team

The Baltimore Starlings have been announced as Baltimore’s new professional women’s basketball team. The franchise will join the UPSHOT League, owned by Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, for its inaugural season beginning in May 2027.

The team name was chosen through a fan contest held earlier this year. The official logo features a starling bird in colors inspired by the Maryland flag, with a star at its center as a tribute to Fort McHenry. This bird theme aligns the Starlings with Baltimore’s existing professional teams, the Ravens and the Orioles.

Baltimore native and former WNBA player Sonia Chase will serve as the team president. The Starlings are scheduled to play their home games at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on the UMBC campus.
