Baltimore to deploy five new school zone speed cameras

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation will expand its Automated Traffic Enforcement System (ATVES) by installing five new speed cameras in designated school zones starting October 26, 2026. The expansion aims to reduce speeding and enhance pedestrian safety, particularly for children.

The new enforcement locations include: • Loch Raven Boulevard (5700–6000 blocks) near Cardinal Shehan School and Yorkwood Elementary School. • Moravia Road (4600–5300 blocks) near Furley Elementary School. • West Baltimore Street (2800–2900 blocks) near The SEED School of Maryland. • McClean Boulevard (6200–6400 blocks) near Reginald F. Lewis High School. • East Northern Parkway (2300–2500 blocks) near Baltimore Revolutionary Academy.

These cameras operate year-round, Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The system targets drivers exceeding the posted limit by at least 12 mph. Under Maryland law, fines follow a progressive structure: $40 for 12–15 mph over the limit, increasing up to $425 for speeds 40 mph or more over the limit. These violations are civil citations and do not result in points on a driver’s license.
