Baltimore utilities and county implement regulatory and stormwater updates

Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) has applied for a stormwater management qualitative control waiver from the Baltimore City Department of Public Works. The project involves installing five-inch electric ducts across approximately 0.13 acres of disturbed land in various Baltimore locations, including Orleans St., N. Wolfe St., and N. Chapel St. The applicant claims the project will return the disturbed area to its current runoff condition, meeting the criteria for a waiver under the City Code.

Separately, Baltimore County has introduced new measures to modernize its regulatory processes through the ‘Baltimore County Builds’ initiative. The county launched an online groundwater records portal providing 24/7 access to public records regarding private drinking water wells, septic systems, and groundwater contamination. Additionally, the county has standardized stormwater plan requirements for specific agricultural projects involving between 5,000 square feet and one acre of land disturbance to streamline the review process.
