Bamanga Tukur, former PDP Chairman and Governor, dies at 90
Bamanga Tukur, a prominent Nigerian elder statesman, businessman, and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has died at the age of 90. He passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at his residence in Abuja.
Tukur held several high-profile positions throughout his career. He served as the Governor of the old Gongola State in 1983 and as the Federal Minister of Industries between 1993 and 1995. He also served as the General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from 1975 to 1982. In the private sector, he was the Chairman of BHI Holdings and the DADDO Group of Companies, and held leadership roles in pan-African organizations such as the African Business Roundtable and the NEPAD Business Group.
Following his death, President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders, including Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, expressed their condolences, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political and economic history. Tukur was buried in Yola, Adamawa State, on Sunday, September 14, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites.
