Bamba Maférima, Ivorian tax official and Mayor of Séguéla, dies

Dr. Bamba Maférima (M’Bahia), the Deputy Director General of Taxes in Côte d’Ivoire and Mayor of Séguéla, has passed away. Her death, reported on Friday, September 18, 2026, has caused significant mourning within the Ivorian administration and political circles.

A distinguished technocrat, Dr. Bamba Maférima graduated at the top of her class from the École nationale d’administration (ENA) in Abidjan. She was a certified chartered accountant and a specialist in tax management, having earned a doctorate from Alassane Ouattara University with a thesis focused on tax fraud behaviors.

In addition to her administrative roles, she was a prominent figure in the Rassemblement des houphouëtistes pour la démocratie et la paix (RHDP) and was elected Mayor of Séguéla in 2023. Fatima Bamba, the Mayor of Anyama, paid tribute to her, describing her as a generous, dedicated leader and a close personal friend.
