Bambu Lab announces R1 dedicated laser engraver and cutter

Bambu Lab has announced a teaser for its new product, the R1, which will be a dedicated laser engraving and cutting device. This marks a shift for the company, which previously offered laser capabilities only as expansion modules for existing 3D printers, such as the H2D and H2S models.

While specific technical specifications for the R1 have not yet been released, the company has scheduled further details to be announced in September 2026. The company, founded in Shenzhen by former DJI engineers including Tao Ye, has grown significantly since its 2022 launch of the X1C 3D printer.

The move toward a standalone laser device follows the company's experience with modular laser options that support materials like wood, leather, and metal. A dedicated machine may address previous user feedback regarding the complex cleaning processes required when switching between 3D printing and laser functions on hybrid devices.
