Political parties in Northern Cyprus finalize candidate lists

Several political parties in Northern Cyprus have finalized their parliamentary candidate lists ahead of the general elections scheduled for December 6, 2026.

Demokrat Parti (DP) has confirmed its candidates across multiple districts, including Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa, Girne, İskele, Güzelyurt, and Lefke, aiming to present a diverse and experienced roster. The Yeniden Doğuş Partisi (YDP) has also announced its 50 candidates for six districts, with party leader Erhan Arıklı heading the Lefkoşa list.

Bağımsızlık Yolu has determined its candidates using a ‘zipper system’ to ensure gender representation, prioritizing women in the candidate rankings. The party’s platform focuses on labor rights, environmental protection, and a federal solution for Cyprus.

According to the High Election Board (YSK) schedule, today marks the final day for political parties to determine their candidates. Official candidate announcements are expected by October 31, with the election campaign period set to begin on November 10.
