Ban Teik Tan charged with historic sexual offences

Ban Teik Tan, also known as Ricki Tan, is facing 17 charges of historic sexual offending in New Zealand. The 63-year-old former psychologist is accused of unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault involving five complainants. The alleged incidents occurred between the late 1980s and 2005, when the victims were aged between 12 and 21.

Tan, who has been a registered psychologist in New Zealand since 1995, had significant involvement with young men referred to him by agencies including Oranga Tamariki and the Youth Court. His practising certificate has been suspended. Tan has pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintains his innocence.

New Zealand Police have contacted 90 individuals known to have had contact with Tan through Child, Youth and Family during their youth. Authorities are now appealing to any other potential victims or individuals with information regarding possible offending to come forward.
