Banana preservation methods tested to extend freshness

Sophie Harris, a writer for the Express, tested three different methods to determine the most effective way to preserve bananas and prevent them from ripening too quickly. The goal was to find a method that keeps bananas fresh for up to eight days.

The three methods tested were leaving bananas in a fruit basket, storing them in the refrigerator, and wrapping the stems in aluminum foil.

Testing showed that leaving bananas in a standard fruit basket caused them to ripen rapidly, developing brown spots and softening within a few days. This method was also noted for potentially attracting fruit flies.
