Bananas and jambo fruit identified as beneficial for blood pressure and cholesterol

Nutritionists highlight specific fruits that can assist in managing blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Bananas are recommended for blood pressure control due to their significant potassium content. Potassium helps reduce blood pressure as part of a healthy diet and assists in relaxing blood vessel walls, allowing blood to flow more freely. Additionally, bananas provide magnesium, which helps alleviate tension in vessel walls, and tryptophan, which can positively impact mood.

Jambo fruit (Syzygium malaccense and Syzygium jambos) is also noted for its cardiovascular benefits. It contains anthocyanins, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds that inhibit the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. The fruit's soluble fibers, such as pectin, help reduce cholesterol absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Furthermore, jambo provides vitamin C, potassium, and calcium, which support immune function and hydration.
