Bananas may aid liver health; sugary alcoholic mixes threaten heart

A gastroenterology expert explains that regular banana consumption can support liver health. The fruit’s fiber, potassium and antioxidants are linked to a lower risk of non‑alcoholic fatty liver disease, help maintain a healthy gut‑liver axis, improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation. However, the specialist stresses that bananas are only one part of an overall balanced diet.

Health officials warn that mixing alcoholic drinks, especially beer with fruit juice, can damage the heart muscle. The combination of alcohol and sugar depletes magnesium and potassium, increases the risk of arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation and blood clots, and may lead to stroke or organ failure. The recommendation is to avoid such sweet alcoholic beverages in hot weather and choose water or a homemade isotonic drink instead.
