Banaras Hindu University holds dialogue on AI and research ethics
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hosted a dialogue regarding the impact of Artificial Intelligence on academic research. The discussion focused on the necessity of maintaining originality, ethical practices, and the importance of on-the-ground fieldwork in an increasingly digital research environment.
Professor Harish emphasized that while AI can serve as a supportive tool to facilitate research processes, it must be used responsibly within established ethical frameworks. He urged researchers to prioritize critical observation, independent analysis, and original thinking over an excessive reliance on technology, noting that field experience is vital for ensuring the credibility and authenticity of research.
Additionally, Professor Anurag Dave advocated for an interdisciplinary approach, suggesting that researchers examine how technological advancements intersect with social dynamics to produce relevant scholarship. The session was moderated by Dr. Bala Lakhendra and concluded with remarks from the Head of the Department, Professor Gyan Prakash Mishra.
