Banaras Hindu University secures 15 crore ICMR grant for biomedical research
The Institute of Medical Sciences at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has secured approximately 15 crore rupees in funding for six high-impact biomedical research projects. The grants were awarded under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) NIRF specialised grant initiative.
The approved research focuses on several critical national health priorities, including the early detection of gallbladder cancer, precision oncology for renal cell carcinoma, next-generation solutions for antimicrobial resistance (AMR), diagnostics for post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis, and pediatric septic shock.
This funding will support extensive cohort studies, precision clinical trials, multi-omics biomarker discovery, and advanced laboratory analyses across the Institute of Medical Sciences, the Institute of Science, and various engineering departments. Vice-Chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi noted that the university aims to translate these scientific discoveries into improved patient care while strengthening healthcare infrastructure.
