Banaras Hindu University surgeons remove massive jaw tumour

A medical team at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Faculty of Dental Sciences has successfully performed a complex eight-hour surgery to remove a massive mandibular tumour from a 35-year-old man.

The patient, a washerman from Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, had been suffering from Ameloblastoma for seven years. The aggressive tumour had consumed a significant portion of his lower jaw, drastically altering his facial structure and causing severe social anxiety.

The surgical procedure, led by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) specialist Prof. Akhilesh Kumar Singh, involved a multidisciplinary team of surgeons and anesthesiologists. The operation required the meticulous excision of the diseased portion of the mandible followed by reconstruction to restore the patient's facial symmetry.
