BANASUPRO distributes low-cost food to drought-affected Honduran municipalities
BANASUPRO has launched an operation to distribute low-cost basic food staples to 75 municipalities in Honduras currently under yellow alert due to drought. The initiative utilizes mobile units protected by police to transport essential items such as beans, corn, and flour.
This effort is being coordinated with the Secretariat of Risk and National Contingency Management (Copeco), the Secretariat of Social Development (Sedesol), and the World Food Programme (WFP). The products offered are priced approximately 11% lower than supermarket averages and 4% lower than general market prices. The distribution will begin in the Choluteca department, specifically targeting areas like San Antonio de Flores and Pespire, before progressively covering all affected municipalities.
