Banat culinary heritage explored through historical and agricultural evolution

Tamara Ognjević, co-founder of Artis Centar and expert in gastro-heritage, presented a lecture at the Žeravica Museum in Novi Miloševo regarding the culinary history of the Banat region.

Ognjević explained that the region's gastronomy is deeply rooted in its agricultural transformation from marshlands to fertile plains. The culinary identity of Banat was shaped by the coexistence of various ethnic groups, including Serbs, Romanians, Hungarians, Danube Swabians, and Slovaks, whose traditions merged through the labor of local peasants. The lecture emphasized that gastronomy serves as a record of social relations, migration, and the historical evolution of the landscape.
