Banca Transilvania sees 18,000 diaspora clients open accounts

Since the beginning of the year, 18,000 Romanians living in the diaspora have opened accounts with Banca Transilvania. The majority of these new clients reside in Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

Customers have utilized the BT Pay and BT Pay Italia applications, as well as physical bank branches in Romania and Italy, to establish their accounts. The bank’s online platforms for the diaspora and BT Italia have recorded nearly 1 million visits this year, offering services such as daily banking, financial management recommendations, and online safety information.

To encourage engagement, the bank has introduced incentives including cashback of up to 100 euros for new diaspora clients using BT Pay and a promotion offering doubled interest for the first month of savings for the first 500 customers who open specific accounts starting August 10, 2026. For residents in Italy, the BT Pay Italia app provides an Italian IBAN to facilitate commission-free income deposits.
