Bancada da Bala: Security focus absent in most legislative proposals

An investigation into the 'Bancada da Bala'—a supra-partisan group of Brazilian lawmakers linked to security forces—reveals a disconnect between their political identity and legislative output. Although public security is central to their political branding, only one in four members prioritized the issue in their actual mandates.

Data shows that only 23% of the 2,428 proposals submitted by the 43 members who have been part of the group between 2023 and 2026 were related to public security. Only 11 deputies, including Guilherme Derrite, General Girão, and Eduardo Bolsonaro, dedicated more than half of their legislative actions, such as bills and constitutional amendments, to the theme.
