Honduras Ministerio Público dismisses officials after Alexander Ardón acquittal

The Honduran Ministerio Público has dismissed three officials following the acquittal of Alexander Ardón, the former mayor of El Paraíso, Copán, in a money laundering case.

The dismissed individuals include the assigned prosecutor, a forensic expert, and the head of the financial unit. Spokesperson Yuri Mora stated the decision was made due to detected negligence and irregularities in how the prosecution was managed during the oral and public trial.

The acquittal was issued by a national court specializing in organized crime and corruption, which determined that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient financial evidence to prove the crime. In response, the Ministerio Público announced it will file a cassation appeal to have a higher judicial authority review the legal basis of the ruling and potentially overturn the decision.
