Banco de España announces free guided tours of its Madrid headquarters

The Banco de España is reopening its central headquarters in Madrid for free guided tours. The program, titled ‘Puertas Abiertas’, is scheduled to begin on September 25. This edition features an 18% increase in available spots compared to the previous season, with more than 33,000 places offered.

Visitors can explore emblematic spaces of the 19th-century building, including the Imperial Staircase, the Cash Patio (currently the Library), the Collectors' Room, and the Operations Patio. The building, located in Plaza de Cibeles, was declared a Historical Monument in 1999.

Guided tours are led by a group of volunteers and former employees. The tours last approximately one and a half hours and cover the building's eclectic architecture and its collection of nearly 5,000 works of art, including paintings, tapestries, and furniture. While the famous Gold Chamber is a point of high interest, it is not currently open for visits and is expected to be accessible in 2028.

Tickets will be released on the official Banco de España website on September 16 at 12:00. Tours are scheduled for various times throughout the week, including afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, as well as mornings and afternoons on weekends.
