Casas Bahia withdraws R$ 422 million claim against Banco do Brasil
Casas Bahia has withdrawn its legal request for the return of R$ 422 million from Banco do Brasil, stating it is seeking a consensual solution with the bank. The retailer had previously alleged that the bank debited these funds from its accounts to reimburse itself for guarantees provided to suppliers Apple and Mapfre Seguros following the company's judicial recovery filing.
Banco do Brasil denied the withdrawal occurred, asserting that no such debit was finalized between August 21 and 24. The bank claimed a debit attempt on August 25 failed due to insufficient funds and subsequently accused Casas Bahia of bad-faith litigation, arguing the company had access to statements proving no money had been taken.
Separately, the São Paulo Court has granted the anticipation of the stay period for Casas Bahia, suspending all creditor collection actions and executions for 180 days to protect the company's assets. The retailer's judicial recovery process involves a declared debt of R$ 17.3 billion.
