Banco FIE receives AA1 rating upgrade from MicroFinanza Rating
MicroFinanza Rating (MFR) raised Bolivia's Banco FIE from an AA2 to an AA1 credit rating, the highest level within the AA category, and assigned a stable outlook. The agency cited sustained improvements in the bank’s profitability, with a return on equity of 18.9%, stronger credit‑portfolio quality, adequate liquidity, and comprehensive risk‑management practices covering credit, operational, continuity, environmental and social risks. It also highlighted the bank’s solid corporate governance and experienced board.
The rating upgrade comes amid Bolivia’s challenging macro‑economic environment of high inflation, foreign‑currency shortages and slowing growth. Banco FIE’s general manager, Enrique Palmero, said the new rating “recognizes the solidity of our results, the strengthening of our management and our commitment to financial inclusion, even in complex conditions.” The upgrade positions Banco FIE as one of the most robust financial institutions in the country, supporting its mission to provide inclusive banking services to thousands of individuals and businesses.
