Banco Mercantil chatbot MIA enables mobile payments

Banco Mercantil has announced that its AI-based chatbot, MIA, has reached a milestone of 50 million conversations since its launch in 2019. To mark its seventh anniversary, the bank has expanded the chatbot's capabilities to allow users to execute financial transactions directly within the chat interface.

Users can now perform Tpago mobile payments through the chatbot via online banking and the Mercantil Móvil apps for both individuals and businesses. The process allows users to select the payment option, identify themselves, enter recipient details and amounts, and receive an immediate receipt.

The update also includes an integrated multi-currency calculator. The chatbot automatically converts amounts in dollars or euros into bolívares using the official daily exchange rate from the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV).
