Banco Nación employees face trial for alleged theft in Orán
A trial has commenced in Salta, Argentina, involving two employees of the Banco Nación branch in Orán accused of stealing money from customers. Silvia Verónica Castro and Fernando Horacio Arias Knudsen face charges of fraud and violation of the duties of a public official.
The suspects allegedly employed a technique known as 'pellizco' (pinch), where they would extract banknotes during the counting process and hide them inside bank brochures. Security footage captured at least 22 such incidents occurring between July and November 2023.
Investigations by the Procuraduría de Investigaciones Administrativas (PIA) revealed that the stolen amounts typically ranged from 10,000 to 30,000 pesos per operation. Federal Prosecutor Marcos Romero noted that these amounts were small enough to avoid immediate suspicion given the high volume of transactions at the branch. The trial is being presided over by Judge Domingo Batule at the Tribunal Oral Federal N°2 de Salta.
