Banco Popular boosts digital transformation and social impact in Costa Rica

Banco Popular presented its XV Sustainability GRI 2025 Report, highlighting a financial year in which the conglomerate generated more than CRC 473 billion in economic value, of which roughly CRC 450 billion was returned to the Costa Rican economy through employment, procurement of goods and services, social investment and institutional strengthening. By statutory mandate, 25 % of its profits are directed to social programs, reinforcing its long‑standing community focus.

The bank serves over 1.1 million customers and has accelerated its digital transformation, expanding mobile‑app features, WhatsApp self‑service, and fully digital product offerings. In 2025 it recorded a historic placement of over CRC 71 billion in social‑banking resources for housing, productive activities, entrepreneurship and communal development. Through its FODEMIPYME program, Banco Popular disbursed CRC 12.341 billion in SME credit, backed by CRC 30.213 billion in guarantees, alongside training and technical assistance. The institution also highlighted a partnership with the Inter‑American Development Bank to broaden financing access. The report coincided with the bank’s 57th anniversary, underscoring its continued commitment to financial solidity, technological innovation and social welfare.
