Banco Popular brings Carnegie Hall youth orchestra to Santo Domingo

Banco Popular Dominicano, together with Fundación Sinfonía, sponsored the visit of the National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2) from Carnegie Hall to the Dominican Republic. The 90‑member ensemble of 14‑ to 16‑year‑old musicians performed a surprise flash‑mob in the historic Ciudad Colonial, beginning at the Centro Cultural Taíno Casa del Cordón and moving through the Plaza de España, Parque Colón and the Palacio Consistorial.

The program also included concerts in Santiago de los Caballeros on 2 August and in Santo Domingo on 3 August. The orchestra is directed by Mei‑Ann Chen and featured American violinist Tessa Lark as guest soloist. Banco Popular executive José Mármol said the initiative supports the “orange economy” and aims to link international artistic excellence with Dominican cultural heritage, providing young people with educational and social opportunities through music.
