Banco Sabadell President claims solid position after failed BBVA takeover
Josep Oliu, president of Banco Sabadell, stated that the bank is in a “solid” position, “strengthened morally and financially,” following the failed takeover attempt by BBVA nearly a year ago.
Speaking at an event in Alicante, Oliu introduced the bank’s new CEO, Marc Armengol. While acknowledging that the bank has recovered from the “small bump” caused by the attempted acquisition, Oliu noted that the institution remains active in deciding its future direction.
Regarding the broader economic landscape, Oliu cited global uncertainty stemming from technological shifts and political instability, specifically mentioning volatility in oil prices and interest rates. However, he expressed optimism regarding Spain’s competitiveness, describing the country as one of the best-prepared in Europe to face upcoming economic challenges.
