BancoEstado lowers CuentaRUT age requirement to 12

BancoEstado has announced a change to the eligibility requirements for its CuentaRUT product, allowing Chilean and foreign youth with valid identity cards to access the account starting at age 12, regardless of gender. This update unifies previous requirements where males under 14 required a tutor to receive benefits, while females could access the account at 12.

The change is expected to significantly impact more than 134,000 students who receive benefits through the National Board of School Aid and Scholarships (Junaeb). These students will now be able to receive and manage various state scholarships directly, including the Indigenous Scholarship, the President of the Republic Scholarship, and several regional grants.

Junaeb Director Fernando Peña noted that the measure allows students to access benefits directly and promotes early financial education while ensuring resources reach beneficiaries more accurately.
