Bancaribe launches demolition and donation drives after June earthquakes in Venezuela

Bancaribe confirmed that the visible collapse at its Altamira headquarters in Caracas was part of a controlled demolition that began on 9 July, following damage sustained during the twin earthquakes on 24 June. The bank said the demolition, overseen by specialists and municipal authorities, will last about fifteen days, with staff relocated to other sites and services maintained through online channels and temporary branches in Castellana, Galipán and Los Palos Grandes.

In parallel, Bancaribe opened electronic channels for customers to donate to Cáritas Venezuela, matching the amounts contributed. The initiative, launched shortly after the earthquakes, includes a digital donation button on the bank’s website and app, a primary collection point at its El Rosal headquarters, and a volunteer‑driven distribution network delivering food, hygiene items and medicine to affected communities. The bank’s president, Martín Pérez De Benedetto, highlighted the ongoing humanitarian needs and the importance of sustaining support beyond the immediate emergency.
