Banda Aceh Inspectorate Head detained for alleged Sharia law violations

An Echelon II official in the Banda Aceh City Government, identified as the Head of the Inspectorate, has been detained by the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja and Wilayatul Hisbah (Satpol PP-WH). The official was allegedly caught with a same-sex partner in an office setting on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal confirmed the incident and stated that the official is currently undergoing intensive investigation to determine violations of Islamic Sharia law. The Mayor emphasized that the administration will not practice favoritism and that legal consequences and disciplinary actions will be applied according to existing regulations and the results of the investigation.
