Banda man arrested for allegedly setting victim on fire with petrol

A man was arrested in the Atarra कोतवाली area of Banda, Uttar Pradesh, after allegedly setting a man on fire with petrol. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute regarding the victim's interactions with the suspect's mother.

The victim, a resident of the Naraini कोतवाली area, stated that he was in contact with a woman in an Atarra village when the suspect, identified as Umesh, confronted him. According to the victim, Umesh demanded he stop speaking to the woman, and when he refused, the suspect doused him in petrol and set him ablaze.

The victim sustained severe burns and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital. Deputy SP Amarnath Gupta confirmed that a case has been registered under crime number 352/2026 for the attempted murder. Police have arrested Umesh and sent him to jail while continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the attack.
