Bandai Namco announces Sword Art Online DLC ‘Genesis Maidens’

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced ‘Genesis Maidens’, a new paid expansion for the action RPG ‘Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad’. Scheduled for release in the winter of 2026, the DLC will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The expansion introduces a completely new side story set within the first and second floors of the Aincrad castle. Key features include the introduction of Misumi Tozawa (also known as Mito) from the ‘Sword Art Online Progressive’ film duology, who will serve as a central character with a psychological narrative arc.

Gameplay additions include a new weapon type, the curved sword, which offers agile combat mechanics and wide-range sweeps. Players will also gain access to a new armor enhancement system called ‘sewing’, allowing for the use of emblem mods to increase defense, as well as new quest areas.
