Bandai Namco reports record Q1 profits driven by toys and hobby segment
Bandai Namco has reported record-breaking financial results for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, driven primarily by its Toys and Hobby segment. The company generated approximately 328.5 billion yen in net sales, a 9.3% increase year-over-year, while operating profit rose 33% to 69.2 billion yen.
The Toys and Hobby division has become the company's primary profit driver, contributing roughly 80% of total operating profit and two-thirds of total revenue. Success in this area is attributed to strong performance from major intellectual properties including Gundam, Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Digimon. Notably, the Digimon IP achieved its highest profit ever.
In contrast, the Digital segment experienced a downturn, with sales falling by 15.6% and profits decreasing by 30.9% compared to the same period last year. This decline was linked to lower software sales on home consoles due to a lack of major title releases during the quarter. Despite this, the company has revised its semi-annual sales forecasts for digital content upward by 10%.
