Bandar Abbas explosion raises US-Iran tension in Strait of Hormuz

An explosion was reported in the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, a key chokepoint of the Strait of Hormuz, though the cause has not been confirmed. The incident follows a series of U.S. air and cruise‑missile strikes on Iranian facilities and a reported Iranian missile attack on U.S. HIMARS systems at the Arifjan base in Kuwait.

Iranian state media also noted blasts in the ports of Tchabahar, Konarak, Chiraz and Bandar Lengeh, describing them as part of a broader U.S. offensive aimed at weakening Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping. The United States Central Command said the strikes target capabilities used to attack maritime traffic. Tehran responded by firing surface‑to‑surface missiles at the American missile system in Kuwait, saying the action is retaliation for the U.S. attacks.
