Bande de Femmes feminist comic festival returns to Rome

The Bande de Femmes feminist comic and illustration festival returns to Rome from September 7 to 10. Organized by Libreria Tuba and curated by Sarah Di Nella, Ginevra Cassetta, and Marta Capesciotti, the event features various activities.

At the Biblioteca Goffredo Mameli garden, artist Luisa Montalto will lead free workshops titled ‘Figuracce – fumetti senza imbarazzi’ for aspiring comic artists under the age of 13. These sessions aim to help participants use visual storytelling to navigate the challenges of growing up and managing family or social relationships.

The festival concludes on September 10 at Libreria Tuba, where the artist Doublewhy will present ‘The Flag of Liberty: A True History of the Most Notorious Pirates’. Published by Dog Section Press, the book offers a historical perspective on piracy through the lens of daily life on ships and collective decision-making, providing an alternative to mainstream cinematic depictions.
