Bandit Kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki Killed in DSS Operation in Katsina, Nigeria
The Department of State Services (DSS) carried out an intelligence‑led operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, Nigeria. Over 200 armed bandits, led by notorious kingpin Idi Abasu Aiki and supported by members of the Ado Aleru band from Zamfara State, stormed Guga village. The DSS, backed by Katsina State community vigilantes and specially‑trained hunters, set a trap that resulted in more than 60 bandits being killed, including Idi Abasu Aiki and 14 of his top commanders. Four vigilantes were also killed during the clash. After the fighting, security forces recovered abandoned weapons and other items of concern.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry in Nigeria's northwest, where communities have formed watch groups to defend villages against frequent attacks.
