Bandung and Bekasi advance waste‑to‑energy and digital recycling initiatives
The Bandung city government is finalising commissioning of the Tegalega Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) so it can produce value‑added Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) briquettes in addition to bulk RDF. Secretary of Bandung, Iskandar Zulkarnain said the plant, equipped with Ministry of Public Works machinery, is being optimised before hand‑over and could handle up to 25 tonnes of waste per day. He noted, "If the final product is in briquette form, its economic value is certainly more promising."
In Bekasi, Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) delivered a digital‑marketing and application training programme for the managers of Bank Sampah Vida Bekasi. Funded by the Ministry of Education’s research directorate, the workshop taught participants how to use an e‑commerce marketplace and a dedicated waste‑bank app to manage data, transactions and promote recycled products. Bank Sampah chair Nia Kurniasih said, "The activity provides new knowledge and skills for us, especially in using digital technology to support operations and marketing of our products."
