Bandung woman’s three‑year captivity and abuse prompts DPR call for harsh penalties

A woman identified only as YTR, aged about 30, was held captive and brutally abused for three years in a boarding house in Cileunyi, Bandung regency, Indonesia. The victim suffered severe facial injuries, heavy infection, loss of vision and other trauma.

Member of Indonesia’s House of Representatives, Commission VIII, Atalia Praratya condemned the case, describing it as a “horrific humanitarian tragedy.” She demanded that the perpetrator be arrested immediately and sentenced to the maximum punishment, and she criticized the surrounding community for ignoring the abuse despite hearing repeated disturbances.

Police investigations continue, and the alleged abuser remains at large.
