Bane Nor reports signal failures on Gardermobanen railway

Significant signal failures on the Gardermobanen railway line have caused widespread train delays and cancellations in Norway, particularly affecting commuters traveling to and from Oslo. Despite recent maintenance work on the Romeriksporten tunnel intended to stabilize service, signal errors have led to major disruptions following the summer closure.

Bane Nor's director for operations and maintenance, Henning Bråtebækk, acknowledged the issues, stating that the faults were caused by a type of false alarm in the signaling system. Local officials, including the Mayor of Lillestrøm, Kjartan Berland, have expressed frustration, noting that the instability is driving commuters back to using cars.

Compounding the current issues, a recent investigation from the Norwegian Railway Directorate suggests that the implementation of the new ERTMS signaling system could be delayed by up to 24 years. While the original goal was to have the system in place by 2031, Bane Nor currently has no confirmed completion date, raising concerns about long-term railway stability.
