Banff National Park reports two separate hiking fatalities

Two individuals died during separate outdoor activities in Banff National Park last week, according to the RCMP.

On Wednesday, a 24-year-old man, described as a trained and experienced backcountry climber and off-duty hiking guide, died following a fall from Recondite Peak. He was reported missing after his satellite communication device stopped moving, and Parks Canada rescue specialists located his body via helicopter the same day.

On Saturday, a 33-year-old man from Calgary died near the Big Beehive and Devil's Thumb area close to Lake Louise. He had been hiking with friends but separated from the group before being found dead by rescue specialists.

These incidents follow a series of other hiking-related deaths in Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country throughout the summer.
