C. A. P abandons plan to create first K-pop idol labor union

Bang Min Su, the former TEEN TOP member known as C. A. P, has abandoned his nine-month effort to establish the first K-pop idol labor union. The initiative was officially withdrawn from the Seongnam branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor on May 13.

The primary reason for the project's failure was a lack of participation. While initial reports suggested ten idols were interested, the official registration documents included only two names. Bang cited “differences in values among members” as the reason for canceling the registration.

The proposed union aimed to improve working conditions for K-pop artists, specifically seeking better access to South Korea’s four major social insurance programs: national pension, health insurance, unemployment insurance, and industrial accident compensation. Additionally, the union sought to mandate agency responses to malicious online comments, provide legal support for artists, and offer psychological counseling and medical services for those suffering from mental distress.
