Bangkok bar manager shaves woman's head over unpaid bill

An 18-year-old woman had her head shaved by a bar manager in Bangkok, Thailand, following a dispute over an unpaid bill totaling approximately 60,000 baht (roughly $1,800). The incident occurred on August 25 in the Pinklao area after the woman, who reportedly used a fake ID to enter the establishment, attempted to leave without paying for a large amount of consumption.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the woman, dressed in white, appearing to sign a “hair purchase contract” to settle the debt. A bartender is then seen using electric clippers to shave her head. While the bar management claimed the arrangement was a market-value transaction to avoid police involvement, the incident has sparked significant backlash.

Chalida Phalamat, founder of the Be One Foundation, has condemned the action, stating that any agreement made under such pressure may not be legally valid and could constitute assault or unlawful detention. The case has been referred to Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security for investigation. The woman's mother has also contested the incident, noting that while she may have agreed to sell the hair, she did not authorize the complete shaving of her daughter's head.
