Bangkok bids to host WorldPride 2030 to support Asian LGBTQIA+ communities

Bangkok has officially submitted a bid to host WorldPride 2030, aiming to make the event a platform for advancing LGBTQIA+ visibility and solidarity across Asia. As the first time the event would arrive in the region, the bid focuses on strengthening communities beyond the host city and fostering international connections.

The proposal includes practical measures to ensure diverse participation, such as the Bangkok WorldPride Activist Fellowship. This initiative intends to provide at least 150 fully funded places for frontline activists, with 70 percent of these spots allocated to participants from the Global South to mitigate barriers regarding accreditation and accommodation.

Additionally, the bid features a week-long Human Rights Forum and a proposed framework called ‘Bangkok Action 2030’. This framework seeks to promote cooperation on issues including bodily autonomy, legal and family recognition, and the protection of human rights defenders.
