Bangkok expands green initiatives and launches luxury Langham hotel

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration rolled out the Green Bangkok 2030 plan in December 2019, setting clear targets to increase urban greenery, create pocket parks and improve walkability. The programme, accelerated during the COVID‑19 pandemic, has already transformed parts of the former concrete jungle into more walkable, greener neighborhoods.

Separately, the historic Custom House on the Chao Phraya River, built in 1888 during the reign of King Rama V, is being restored and converted into The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok. The five‑star hotel, managed by The Langham Hospitality Group, will open on 20 December with 60 guest rooms, 15 suites and public spaces that blend heritage architecture with contemporary design. The development adds a high‑end hospitality offering to the city’s growing tourism sector while preserving a landmark of Thai trade history.
