Bangkok Governor clarifies emergency budget status

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has addressed concerns regarding the city's emergency funds, clarifying that only 28 million baht remains in the specific emergency budget for disaster relief. This follows the expenditure of 372 million baht from an initial 400 million baht allocation to assist with recent flooding.

The expenditure included 162 million baht for relief supplies such as food and water, and 210 million baht transferred to the government for citizen remediation.

Chadchart assured the public that the city's overall budget remains intact and functional. He noted that if additional emergency funds are required, the administration has the authority to reallocate money from other budget categories, though he cautioned that such moves would impact funds intended for future needs. He emphasized that while Bangkok collects taxes similarly to other local authorities, the high population density necessitates significant spending.
