Bangkok police rescue family from Laotian man holding wife and son hostage
A Laotian man held his wife and son hostage with a knife at the Yomarat overpass in the Ratchathewi district of Bangkok on October 24. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. near the Phaya Thai police jurisdiction.
Responding officers and rescue teams arrived to find the man threatening his son with a blade. During the standoff, the man made erratic demands, initially asking police to drive him to the Mo Chit northern bus terminal in a patrol car, then later demanding a motorcycle to return to his hometown.
Police managed to subdue the man and rescue the family after he refused to release them even when transport was provided. While the wife and son sustained minor injuries and shock, they were otherwise unharmed. The man was taken to a hospital for medical attention, and the Phaya Thai police station is proceeding with legal action. The motive remains unclear as the man was reportedly making incoherent statements during the incident.
