Bangkok prepares security and flood measures for IMF-World Bank 2026

Bangkok authorities have established an incident command center to prepare for the 2026 annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The city is coordinating with police, municipal officers, and district offices to ensure security and order for the international summit.

Key measures include the activation of 1,300 CCTV cameras to monitor 21 primary routes used by delegates. To maintain the country's image and ensure safety, officials are conducting inspections in small alleys, particularly around Sukhumvit, to prevent disruptions.

In response to weather forecasts predicting rain in 60% of the area, the Department of Drainage has prepared water pumps and drainage systems, including the Saen Saep canal and Rama IV Road, to manage potential flooding. Additionally, authorities are monitoring potential public demonstrations, noting that designated areas like ‘Lan Khon Muang’ are available for public expression should protesters seek permission.
