Salahuddin Ahmad warns Bangladesh police against aiding fascist forces

Bangladesh Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmad has issued a stern warning to police officers regarding their conduct and political affiliations. Speaking at the 2026 Police Week medal ceremony, the Minister stated that the government possesses information regarding field-level officers who have neglected their duties or secretly aided fascist forces.

Officers found to be cooperating with such forces will face charges under sedition laws. To enforce accountability, the Minister announced a ‘punishment and reward’ system: police members who play a key role in arresting associates of the banned Awami League and other destabilizing elements will be rewarded, while those failing to meet public expectations or engaging in misconduct will face both departmental and criminal prosecution.

Furthermore, Ahmad emphasized that the police force must demonstrate a significant change in conduct and professional reform by December 31, 2026. He urged the force to utilize intelligence capabilities more effectively to prevent instability and ensure the security of citizens.
