Bangladesh adviser calls for global financial architecture reform

Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, adviser to the prime minister on finance and planning, has called for a comprehensive reform of the global financial architecture. Speaking at the UN General Assembly during the 2026 SDG Moment, Titumir emphasized the need for affordable, predictable, and vulnerability-sensitive financing for developing nations.

He outlined five key priorities for reforming international financial institutions and multilateral development banks: shifting from reactive crisis response to anticipating vulnerabilities, increasing the influence of vulnerable countries in international institutions, providing longer-term and lower-cost finance, aligning international finance with national development strategies, and ensuring flexible support for least developed countries (LDCs) graduating from that status, such as Bangladesh.
