Bangladesh adviser says Sheikh Hasina will face legal justice if she returns

Zahed Ur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s adviser on information and broadcasting in Bangladesh, stated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will face legal proceedings rather than mob violence if she returns to the country. Speaking at a government press briefing, Rahman noted that Hasina, who was sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity, would be subject to the legal process. He expressed a desire for her return, asserting that the government would ensure justice is served through proper channels.

In a separate statement released via the Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina accused the current government of widespread repression. She alleged that the country is experiencing mass arrests, torture, and human rights violations, claiming that between 5,000 and 7,000 people are being detained daily. Hasina also criticized the administration's economic management, citing shortages of essential resources such as gas, electricity, and fuel.
